Standard dry powder fire extinguishers are called "ABC" extinguishers because they are suitable for Class A, Class B, and Class C fires. However, they are not recommended for use in enclosed spaces due to the ease of inhaling the powder and the difficulty of removing residue during cleanup. The primary use of powder fire extinguishers is to extinguish flammable materials caused by flammable solids such as wood, paper, and fabric; flammable liquids such as gasoline, turpentine, or paint; and flammable gases such as hydrogen, butane, or methane. They are not recommended for fires involving cooking oil, electrical equipment, or enclosed spaces such as buildings and offices. Note: The image is for illustrative purposes only.
