7 reasons why ice builds up in your freezer and easy ways to fix it

Freezer problems and malfunctions... The inability to freeze is one of the problems that often appear in single-door and double-door refrigerators in the home.

The freezer compartment is the same as one of the rooms or boxes in the refrigerator that contains the coldest temperature.

The freezer compartment of the refrigerator is usually located at the top with the smallest volume .

The recommended freezer temperature for the refrigerator is below 18 degrees Celsius.

Which makes the freezer a special place for freezing food or for making ice cream and ice cubes.

So what are the problems and how are they solved? Let's take a full look below:

Causes and solutions for ice buildup and freezer freezing

1. Poor capacitor coil

The freezer condenser is usually located in different places.

There is something inside the freezer wall , but some of them are placed on the back or at the bottom.

As for the condenser wrapping inside, it is usually adequately protected so that it does not get dirty easily and does not need cleaning.

However, the wrapping that is located at the bottom or back should be cleaned regularly every 6-12 months.

Because, wrap it up , it's in an easily accessible and open place.

If its wrapping is dirty, the condenser will not be able to absorb heat effectively and will reduce its ability to freeze food.

2. Problem with the evaporator fan motor

The evaporator fan motor can also be one of the problems causing the freezer not to freeze in the refrigerator.

The function of the evaporator fan motor itself is used to circulate the air above the evaporator coil so that it can be circulated to all parts of the freezer.

If the evaporator fan motor is not working, then the freezer will not be able to freeze anything.

Most refrigerators have an evaporator fan that stops when the door is opened.

To check the evaporator fan motor, we need to open the freezer door and manually activate the door switch.

If the switch is activated but the evaporator fan motor is not working, the fan should be replaced with a new one.

3. Sealed evaporator coils

One reason for a closed evaporator coil is a problem with the defrost system. The heating ( defrost ) system typically needs to be switched on several times a day to melt any ice that may have accumulated in the evaporator coil .

Unfortunately, the defrosting system sometimes does not work optimally, so ice will continue to accumulate on the evaporator coils .

It will create a freezing zone that is either not frozen or chilled to the maximum extent.

To confirm whether the defrosting system is working or not, you can use a multimeter to test the system's continuity.

4. The condenser fan is not working.

The condenser fan works by drawing air through the condenser.

If the fan motor is faulty or if the fan is not working, air cannot be drawn through the condenser.

As a result, a freezer refrigerator cannot be either cold or frozen.

Therefore, you need to check the fan motor because the fan motor bearings can be damaged and need to be replaced.

5. The refrigerator door is opened frequently.

If you open the freezer door frequently in a short period of time, a large amount of cold air can leak out of the refrigerator.

It will also cause the freezer temperature to register.

This can also happen if you don't close the door completely or if food gets in your way when you try to close it.

Try carefully inspecting the seal along its perimeter, including opening the refrigerator door.

If the door won't close, repair the seal to allow the refrigerator to operate at its best.

6. Check the temperature setting

If the freezer is not frozen, set the temperature control to a lower setting.

It may take up to 24 hours for the freezer to reach a new temperature.

So wait a little while before you check the status again on the freezer refrigerator.

Especially if you put warm or hot food in the freezer.

The chamber may take a full 24 hours for its temperature to stabilize.

7. Freezer ventilation

The reason the freezer isn't frozen is probably due to the air circulation ventilation in the freezer compartment.

If you are having trouble finding ventilation in the freezer, you can see the guide.

After finding it, rearrange the food in the freezer to allow air to circulate in the area.

These are the reasons why your freezer freezes and how to deal with them easily at home.
