What is foam wall insulation?

Isolation It is one of the oldest engineering terms, used for thousands of years to protect homes. Insulation was used by the ancient Egyptians to protect their houses and preserve mummies, and the Babylonians used it to paint their homes. Building insulation is crucial for regulating the temperature of a house throughout the year.

 What is foam insulation?
Homes are exposed to many problems due to climatic conditions that occur throughout the year, such as humidity, rainfall, and high temperatures. Foam insulation emerged to eliminate these problems because of the numerous advantages this insulation method offers.
These features include:
1. Foam insulation is a dual-purpose insulation. Dual-purpose insulation is characterized by its ability to provide both waterproofing and thermal insulation.
2. Foam insulation is time-saving as it does not require much time to install, unlike other types of insulation.
3. Due to its thickness and density, foam insulation only loses its effectiveness over a long period of time. Its lifespan is longer than other types of insulation.
4. Foam insulation is cheaper than other types of insulation.
5. Foam insulation greatly reduces our energy use in homes.
6. Foam insulation prevents water leakage.
7. The homeowner can control the density of the foam insulation layer as he wishes.
8. Foam insulation is characterized by being lightweight, not harboring any type of insects or fungi, and being so thick that it is difficult to penetrate.

What are the types of foam insulation?
1. Polyurethane:
Polyurethane is an organic material characterized by its low thermal conductivity and its inability to absorb water or vapor, except in amounts not exceeding 1%. Polyurethane is also lightweight and compressive.
There are two types of polyurethane insulation. The first is the solid type, which comes in ready-made panels. The second is the liquid type, which is sprayed onto walls.
Insulation using polyurethane is one of the most suitable methods for resisting variations in weather conditions and climate changes.

2. White and blue foam / polystyrene:
White and blue foam is a semi-plastic material that allows air to pass through it. Polystyrene is lightweight, contains many air pockets, is waterproof, and has poor thermal conductivity. Polystyrene comes in various densities, and the higher the density, the stiffer and less thermally conductive it is. Naturally, higher density means a higher price.
White and blue foam insulation is extremely easy to install; the panels are installed in seconds. The two available panel types are standard panels and interlocking panels. The latter is preferable. White and blue foam can also be divided into two types: extruded foam and molded foam.
Extruded foam insulation is inexpensive, characterized by its high density, light weight, ease of installation, and ability to resist pressure, making it the ideal choice for many people.
Molded foam insulation, however, is less dense and of lower quality.

Mistakes to avoid when installing foam insulation
There are many mistakes workers make when installing foam insulation. These mistakes reduce the efficiency of the foam insulation and prevent the desired results from being achieved. For example: uneven distribution of the foam and applying it to metal materials and joints that should be professionally handled.
