How do I fix a blocked sink or bathroom drain?

Clogged sink or bathroom

One of the most common problems that suddenly appear in the home without warning is a blocked drain in the kitchen or bathroom sink, also known as the "drain." The problem is indeed significant, but you can solve it without resorting to outside help. Before knowing the solution, let's learn about the causes of the blockage:
1. Throwing food scraps down the sink, which turns them into slimy, black waste.
2. Coffee and tea remnants.
3. Throwing away leftover vegetables and fruits.
4. Meat, fish, and chicken scraps left over during cleaning.
5. Throwing leftover oil or ghee down the sink is one of the most common problems that cause blockages.
6. Throwing leftover makeup or makeup tools down the bathroom sink.
7. Long hair, which is one of the main causes of blockage in the bathtub drain area.

How do you fix this problem in kitchen or bathroom sinks?

1. Hot water:
Hot water is the appropriate solution if the buildup is caused by oil, ghee, or fats, as it dissolves them and allows them to flow down the drain.

2. Sodium carbonate:
Sodium bicarbonate is an effective and magical substance for removing buildup in the sink. Put a tablespoon of sodium bicarbonate in the sink, then pour in a cup of white vinegar, and you'll be amazed by the results.

3. Caustic soda:
The substance is added to the basin and then hot water is poured over it. However, many precautions must be taken with this substance as it burns the skin and produces harmful fumes. Therefore, plastic gloves and masks must be worn and great care must be taken.

4. Disassemble the drainage area:
Sometimes there are some debris that can only be removed by dismantling and cleaning the drain siphon, which is the ideal, practical and safest solution for that.

Each drain has a plastic piece or hose to collect debris. First, place a bucket of water under the area to be cleaned. Unscrew the plastic pieces, remembering how they were arranged as you unscrewed them. Then clean each piece individually and replace it. Make sure there are no leaks by opening the drain.

If the piece under the drain basin is a white hose, the process is easier. All you have to do is pull its end off the side of the wall and clean it by moving it and turning on the water, then put it back in its place and make sure that there is no water leakage by turning on the water in the basin.

Note: While removing the plastic piece, you will encounter a leather ring-shaped piece. It is very important to replace it and not lose any part. If any leakage occurs, the cause may be that the leather piece is not in place or that the parts are not properly secured.

5. Blockage in the bathtub drain area:
In case of blockage, which is often due to long hair, the solution is very easy. At the drain area, you will find a screw in the middle. Unscrew it with a screwdriver or by using a coin, and then remove the metal piece. You will find hair accumulated underneath it. Remove it by hand and then put everything back as it was.

Precautionary measures:

We always advise taking precautions by not throwing dirt or grease into the sink and using a strainer in the sink. It is also recommended to use salt and then hot water on it almost daily to clean the drain.
