How to choose the right ceiling light for your home

You might think that choosing ceiling lights for your home is easy, but there are many occasions when a poor choice of light bulb leads to a wasted investment.

Before choosing ceiling lights for your home, you should ask the following questions:

In which room should I install the ceiling light?

How much light do I need?

What kind of environment do I want to have?

Which room will we light up and what are its characteristics?

The most important thing when choosing a ceiling light is:

- In which room will we install it?

What are the room's features?

Therefore, the first thing we look at before buying a lamp is its design, and we appreciate that the design of a ceiling lamp largely determines the way it should illuminate the environment in which it will be installed.

For this reason, the first thing is to consider the room we will be lighting and the type of lighting we want.

For example:

Living room with two environments and two lighting points

"I need to light a living room that includes a dining area and a common area (armchair and TV), what is ideal?"

The first thing we do when we want to illuminate a space is to turn on the lights, enhancing their advantages and concealing their potential disadvantages. Therefore, the ideal option is to visually separate areas and try to create contrasting spaces.

How do we get them?

One of the most effective methods is to install a pendant light above the dining table and a fixed ceiling light or ceiling lamp in the television area.

In this way, we create two different environments depending on the use we will give them. In addition, in the armchair area, we will have general lighting that helps to create spacious areas, and in the dining room, the table is something more focused.

How much light should a ceiling light give off?

"Lumens" is a word that was unknown to almost everyone until recently, and now we do nothing but see it in everything related to lamps. What does it mean? Well, a lumen is the amount of light emitted.

Before we thought that the light given by the lamp depended on the wattage of its bulbs, but with the arrival of LEDs, things have changed radically and we need to know the appropriate number of lumens for each situation.

It should also be taken into account that many LED ceiling lights currently do not have spot lights as we have traditionally understood them, but instead integrate LED light within their structure (what we usually call compact LED lights).

For this reason, many descriptions of LED ceiling lights refer to the number of lumens they contain.

"Just because a bulb is 30 watts doesn't mean it gives off more light than a 20-watt bulb. How do we know which one gives off more light? Well, with lumens, the higher the lumens, the brighter the light."

What kind of atmosphere do you want to create using a ceiling light?

If we want a calm and pleasant environment, such as in bedrooms, the recommended lighting color is between 2700-3000 Kelvin, so that we have a clear reference, which is the color that traditional incandescent lamps have.

.

However, in bathrooms and kitchens, we can perfectly install the light color 4000-4500K, the reason being that they are "work areas" where we carry out tasks that require special attention on our part.

Basically, regardless of the design, these three characteristics are the most important to consider when choosing ceiling lights.

In short, it adapts to the room and area we will illuminate, and has the appropriate lighting for the activity we will be doing and achieves the desired environment.
