Secrets of citric acid
Citric acid is usually used very narrowly, either in making jams and pickles, in preserving food, or adding distinctive flavors to food, but citric acid has many uses in keeping your home, kitchen utensils, and other things clean. Citric acid is also distinguished by not affecting skin and surfaces as other chemical preparations do.
Citric acid is used in many applications to maintain cleanliness, such as removing traces of burnt food, removing traces of boiling water, removing various stains, cleaning household sinks, cleaning the stove, cleaning the washing machine and clothes, and cleaning the kitchen wall.
However, one of the most important applications that can be used is cleaning the water-saving devices on bathroom and kitchen faucets, since, due to the hardness of the water in our areas, and since we use hot water, over time limescale builds up on these devices, which leads to them not working fully and correctly. The method is very easy:
- Disconnect the water-saving components from the batteries.
- Take the pieces and place them in hot water with a quantity of citric acid dissolved in it, and you will notice that a reaction takes place between the lime and the water.
- Leave it for several hours, then reassemble it.
- Be aware that there is a piece of leather; make sure you don't lose it, and return it to its place.
