What do you do when the house key breaks in the lock?

We often encounter the problem of a key breaking inside the door lock, preventing us from opening it even with a spare key. This can lead to forced removal, potentially breaking the key further inside the lock or door. Removing the key presents a significant challenge, requiring the assistance of specialists or even replacing the entire lock – all of which is time-consuming, laborious, and expensive. Today, we will present several solutions or methods to resolve this issue without damaging the door, ranked from easiest and least damaging to most difficult and costly.

  1. First, try using tweezers or scissors with pointed edges, and try to pull out the broken part.
  2. Try using a very strong magnet and pull on the end of the key. The magnet certainly won't be able to pull it all the way through, but try to get a part of it out and then pull it off with pliers or cutters.
  3. Fast glue can be used to fix the broken piece to the piece inside the door, but be careful when applying the glue to avoid damaging the lock.
  4. Get a drill and a 2mm drill bit for iron and drill the key from the middle to a depth of about 1cm. After finishing, trap a thin piece of wire or a pin and put super glue on it, leave it for five minutes, and then pull it out.
  5. Get a drill and a 4-6 mm drill bit, and start drilling in the middle of the lock (below the key). Try to be precise, taking full care and caution, and start drilling until you reach the middle of it, but be sure that this will destroy the lock, and you will need to replace it (you will be replacing the lock and not the entire cannon/gauge).
